Women Who Reign: Colleen Denunzio

“Twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do, so throw off the bowlines, sail away from safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore, Dream, Discover.” Mark Twain

Tell us about yourself along with a fun fact!
I currently am a Sophomore at Purdue studying Computer and Information Technology with a double minor in English and Creative Writing. I am the Vice President of Women in Technology at my campus and also the Teaching Assistant for a class titled “Tech 101: Women in Technology: Exploring the Possibilities.” I am a mentor for WiTty Sisters to incoming Freshman. Although I go to Purdue, I am from South Bend, Indiana so the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will always have my heart!

Someone who inspires you and knowledge they have imparted:
My Grandma has inspired me my whole life. My Grandma gave me my love for writing while also telling me that anything I set my mind to was possible. She is my best friend and my role model!

Challenge you’ve faced and how you overcame it:
At Purdue I have had many classes where I am the only female in the classroom in a room full of males. Although it was scary at first and I honestly debated switching majors because of the fear that I would not fit in and would not make any friends, once I opened up I found many good friends and was able to network with a wide variety of people.

Ideal Job:
I hope to see myself in a job that I love what I am doing at. I really don’t know what that may be for me but I want to work at a large company that shares the same morals as me and gives me room for growth and change.

What knowledge would you impart to women in order for them to REIGN their lives?
Be you. Too many people are trying to be “like” people and you can’t really make an impact on the world if you are trying to do something that someone has already done or be like someone who already existed. Mentors are a great resource but make sure to still be you. Follow your passions and stay true to yourself.
