“Life always offers you a second chance. It’s called tomorrow.”
Tell us about yourself along with a fun fact!
I am a freshman at Stony Brook University, majoring in Computer Science. In ninth grade, I created my first program, HelloWorld.java. I was interested in CS through a club field trip to Google, and I found it really exciting that computer science impacted many aspects of our lives. I am the co-founder of BaseHacks, a hackathon for high school and college students in the Bay Area. Currently, my team and I are organizing our second year and we hope it turns out as successful as the first!
FunFact: I love to travel and experience new cultures!
What # would define your life journey?
Favorite website / app:
Someone who inspires you and knowledge they have imparted:
My biggest inspiration is Sheryl Sandberg. She has taught me that it is important to stay positive and work hard, even when life throws unexpected situations at you. I agree and believe in her perception of a career, and that is to look for growth and impact. I am expecting twists and turns in my career, because that’s when I will learn the most.
Song that makes you want to dance:
Lush Life by Zara Larsson
Challenge you’ve faced and how you overcame it:
I went to my first hackathon in junior year of high school. I was very excited and had been looking forward to this event for a while. The people on my team were experienced and had participated in several hackathons. I had expectations that I was going to learn a lot and feel motivated. However, this was not the case, I didn’t feel included in my group at all. I barely got to contribute to the project. After the event, I was determined that I was going to another hackathon and giving this another shot. My next hackathon was a game changer and I loved the energy and the craziness! This event inspired me to host my own hackathon and share this experience with other students.
My ideal job is to be an entrepreneur in tech.
What knowledge would you impart to women in order for them to REIGN their lives?
The most important thing is to believe in yourself. Life will throw many obstacles, but it is crucial to never lose faith. With hard work and perseverance, it is possible to make your dream into a reality. Throughout the journey, you will encounter people that put you down or don’t know what you are capable of, and as women it’s important for us to speak up.
