“It is madness to hate all roses because you got scratched with one thorn. To give up on your dreams because one didn’t come true. To lose faith in prayers because one was not answered, to give up on our efforts because one of them failed. To condemn all your friends because one betrayed you, not to believe in love because someone was unfaithful or didn’t love you back. To throw away all your chances to be happy because you didn’t succeed on the first attempt. I hope that as you go on your way, you don’t give in nor give up!” -The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Now I am part of the Biology Student’s Association (AEB) and Silent Lexicon: ASL association. In addition, I am a Spanish tutor in the Linguistic and Computer Competences Program (CDCLI). Currently, I am in my third year in my Science with emphasis in Environmental Microbiology Bachelor’s degree. My plan is to continue with a PhD in Veterinary Science.
What # would define your life journey?
#enjoyeverymoment We all know that life has its end, but nobody knows when it is going to end. Therefore, I always try to exhort people to enjoy every single day and live to the fullest. To taste the beauty of nature, the sun, the air and life. Just enjoy living!
Favorite website / app:
My favorite website would be Snapchat, because you can know where your friends are, and in some way, you can experience their adventures with them and reciprocally. Similarly, I love YouTube because it is a tool that you can use for everything from mathematical examples to products review.
Someone who inspires you and knowledge they have imparted:
Someone who inspires me is Dr. Wm.Gregory Sawyer who spoke at 2018 National Tutoring Association Conference. I had the privilege of learning about his life, and how he received his first tutoring. When he was marginalized by his skin color, a teacher told him that he could achieve everything that he set out to do. From that moment he was not afraid, he fought to reach his goals and he had success. Thus, the knowledge that he imparted me was that every person had potential and the nationality or skin color is not an impediment to accomplish your goals.
Song that makes you want to dance:
“Fight song” by Rachel Platten, when I hear this song, it excites me so much that I feel like my heart is about to burst. Moreover, this song gives me the courage to be more confident. I loved the part that says: “And I don’t really care if nobody else believes– ‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me.”
Challenge you’ve faced and how you overcame it:
Last year on September 20 at 6:15am Hurricane María, category 4, entered Puerto Rico. That was the day that I lost almost everything I had: my home, food, bed, clothes, university materials, agricultural crops, etc. The only thing that I did not lose was my family, and that was enough to stay strong and sustain faith. It was difficult to concentrate on my studies when I had these major difficulties. However, thanks to the generosity of the good people who helped my country, and to my friends, professors, and family, we were able to rebuild a stronger and more beautiful house. This period in my life was incredibly challenging, nevertheless, it taught me a valuable lesson about life. It helps me to know that even if you think that everything is over, and you do not have the strength to continue, there is always hope. Just never give up! No matter how long it takes you to reach your goal.
My ideal job is one that includes human health care but also the environmental and animal health. Therefore, I am interested in Veterinary Science, which comprehends the effect of the ecosystem in the animal and human life. Furthermore, the zoonotic diseases and how to prevent epidemics.
What knowledge would you impart to women in order for them to REIGN their lives?
I would say to all the women in the world: it does not matter where you come from, you are powerful. As human beings we all have weaknesses, we all bleed, and we all hurt, it is up to us to improve our lives, to study more and work harder than anyone to achieve our dreams. Remember, life is not a race, the important thing is not who comes first, it is getting to the finish line.
